Our Challenge
As technology continues to advance, video content has become an increasingly popular form of communication and expression. From tutorials and presentations to entertainment, advertisements and meetings, video is a versatile medium that can convey a wealth of information and emotions. In the context of education, when students engage with online educational videos, they encounter a range of challenges that can impact their learning experience. One major hurdle is maintaining student engagement throughout the video content. Research conducted by Guo, Kim, and Rubin (2014) found that students' attention tends to decline significantly after just six minutes of watching a video lecture. This decline in engagement can hinder information retention and overall learning outcomes.
In addition to the challenge of engagement, students often struggle with information overload when faced with online videos. Moreno and Mayer's study (2000) revealed that cognitive overload can occur when videos present an excessive amount of visual and auditory stimuli, leading to reduced comprehension and retention. With the vast amount of information available in educational videos, students may find it challenging to process and absorb the content effectively. Technical issues pose another significant challenge for students engaging with online educational videos. Slow internet connections, buffering, or compatibility issues with devices can disrupt the viewing experience and hinder learning. According to a report by the eLearning Industry (2019), 61% of students have experienced technical difficulties while accessing online educational content. These technical challenges can cause frustration and detract from the learning process.
As part of our academic journey, we aim to explore innovative approaches and leverage cutting-edge technologies to overcome these challenges. By harnessing the power of AI and NLP , we aspire to create a platform that empowers students to actively engage with educational videos, extract valuable insights and information, and optimize their learning outcomes. Through our collaborative efforts and the application of Challenge Based Learning principles, we strive to provide a seamless and effective solution that supports students in navigating the overwhelming content often found in online educational videos. By offering a framework that supports the extraction of valuable knowledge, our team aims to make online learning a more engaging, accessible, and effective experience for students.
